Mechanical Engineering — George Fox University ’27

Noah Buttice

I design and build real things. Machined parts, tested materials and hardware that has to work in the real world. I thrive on collaboration and clear communication. I’m passionate about meeting user needs and always learning.

Projects

Dual Cylinder Oscillating Air Engine

Sep 2023 – Dec 2023

Modeled torque output and cylinder volume in Excel, designed parts and assemblies in CAD, then machined everything to tolerance from technical drawings.

Dynamic Analysis of Rotating Carnival Ride

ENGM 350 · Machine Dynamics and Vibrations

Poster page 1: problem, method, free-body diagrams, and solution Poster page 2: state plots, torque profile, and reaction forces

Full poster pages — click to zoom

Multi-body dynamics simulation of a spinning carnival ride in MATLAB. Derived Newton-Euler equations of motion for the two-body system, designed a logarithmic torque profile to spin the disk up to 60 deg/s, and showed how tilt angle amplifies seat oscillations and column reaction forces.

Contract Arborist — Tarver’s Trees

Nov 2021 – Aug 2024 · Portland, OR

  • Performed complex residential tree removals with climbing, rigging, and cutting equipment in constrained environments.
  • Conducted structural health assessments of trees to determine removal or preservation, following Title 11.40.050 evaluation standards.
  • Led daily crew safety briefings and solved site-specific challenges with a small technical team.
  • Worked with a small crew to solve site-specific problems through adaptive, creative problem-solving under variable conditions.
  • Communicated directly with clients to clarify project scope and ensure satisfaction.
